Development
of fisheries is planned for the benefit of the project affected
persons residing on the reservoir periphery who are essentially
tribals. The work plan includes stocking of major crops and
other commercial fish, reservoir development. Formation of
co-operatives, extensive training to the fisherman, providing
infrastructure such as fish landing sites, cold storage and
transportation etc. The plan is drawn in a way that will generate
full fledged employment benefit to displaced persons. In addition
the programme adds to the rural economy on account of the
additional fish productions.
Following
activities have been carried out, so far:
- Reservoir
and dykes are stocked with 455.73 lacs of Indian Major Carp
seeds.
- 236
village ponds of the command area are surveyed so far. 71
ponds found of perennial. The rehabilitated families and
other locals are being pursued under FFDA Programme. This
includes training, assistance for inputs, construction of
fish culture ponds etc.
- Training
on capture fisheries/reservoir fishing is being imparted
to the tribals of surrounding area of SSP. So far, 220 number
of tribals have been trained.
