area, phase - I under Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP)
Health
Department of Gujarat state also takes necessary measures
to minimize the risk of malaria, filaria and dengue and other
diseases associated with water that may result from implementation
of the project. Action Plan for the surveillance and control
of malaria and other vector borne diseases in project area
and command area has been finalized and under implementation.

ACTIVITIES:
Vector
Control Measures
- Combi
blister packs
Combi
blister packs for the treatment of malaria and rapid diagnostic
kits are also provided to the surveillance agencies for
immediate diagnosis and treatment.
- Indoor
Residual Spray (IRS)
During
2008, 10.42 lakh population of Phase-1 districts covered
under indoor residual spray (IRS) with different insecticides.
- Insecticide
Treated Mosquito Nets (ITMNs)
During
2008, 164925 mosquito nets treated and distributed to
the population in the districts covered under phase-I
of SSP command area.
- Use
of Biolarvicide :
During
2008, Larvivorus fishes introduced in 3356 permanent water
bodies to prevent mosquito breeding in the phase-1 districts
of the SSP
Biological
control :
36 Hatcheries
are functioning at Taluka and PHC level. 23 prefabricated
storage tanks are already installed in the Vadodara, Godhra,
Bharuch and Narmada districts for the breeding of larvivorous
fishes. A big hatcheries is established at the Dabhoi town.
Training
The training
programme for MOPHCs, laboratory technicians, MPHS and MPHW/FHW
for malaria control activities is continuously in progress.
Information
Education and Communication (IEC):
DMCS of
SSP districts are undertaking IEC activities. Professional
agencies have been identified and entrusted with the task
for undertaking IEC activities in Bharuch district. IEC materials
like exhibition panels, flip books and posters were also provided
to all districts.
Management
Information System (MIS)
A web
based Management Information System has already made functional
by the Commissionerate of Health and Medical Services, Govt.
of Gujarat for the reporting and generating the data and immediate
feed back for the appropriate anti malaria measures.
