Imprinted
as one of the world's "eight modern wonders abuilding" the
Sardar Sarovar Project is in many ways the life-line of the
people of the entire western India. More so, when it envisages
1450 MW of environment-friendly Hydro Energy, safe potable
water for 8215 villages and 135 urban centers, 1.9055 million
ha of equitable irrigation, 13,950 ha of forest land and the
generation of employment during and after the construction
of the world's largest canal network.
It
is one of the largest engineering endeavors of the history
of mankind- one further illustrated in the sheer scope of
the project - India's third highest concrete dam with some
of the largest aquaducts/syphons and a remote-controlled,
volumetric water delivery system. Not to mention the Narmada
Main Canal, also the world's largest irrigation canal with
a capacity for 40,000 cusecs, and SSP's network of 42 canals
spanning a length of 66000 km.
In
today's scenario of rapidly increasing population and equally
rapidly dwindling natural resources, the Sardar Sarovar Project
is Gujarat Government's endeavour to bring the Narmada to
the water thirsty people and lands of the western India and
assist in sustainable socio-economic development of the region.
We seek the cooperation of all for this Project.
Shri
Narendra Modi
