Dholka branch canal to irrigate 45613 Ha of command area and benefit 92 villages

The Dholka branch canal of the Sardar Sarovar Project, 71.380 km long off takes at ch. 246.366 km of the Narmada main canal near village Jaspur of Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar district. 92 villages are partly or totally covered for irrigation. Its discharge capacity at head is 53.62 cumecs, while at tail it is 4.911 cumecs. The cross-section of this branch canal at head is 6.50 m X 3.40 m while at tail is 2.0m X 1.60 m.

Total 45637 ha command area of Daskroi, Dholka and Sanand talukas of Ahmedabad district, Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar and Tarapur taluka of Anand districts will be benefited by irrigation.

Dholka branch canal passes through Daskroi, Dholka and Sanand taluka of Ahmedabad district, Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar district. The works of earth-work and structure have been completed in August 1997. The work of cement concrete lining is completed up to 80% and remaining work will be completed shortly. The works of distribution system are also taken up on hand and planned to be completed by 2007-08.

Water for irrigation in the SSP will be conveyed through a 66000 km network of conveyance and distribution system consisting of branch canals, distributaries, minors and sub-minors. It may be mentioned here that total 44 branch canals having length of 2528 km are off taking from the Narmada main canal and out of which the work of 1300 km length is completed. Total 690 distributaries having length of 5485 kms off take from these 44 branch canals, out of which the works of 1500 km length are completed.
